Welcome to the Kids Corner of Woodsy Owl’s Battery Safety site!
Woodsy Owl is here to help you learn about safe battery disposal. Batteries are powerful little things that help make your favorite toys work, like remote control cars, music players, watches, tablets, and more!
But just like how you follow rules to cross the street safely or stay away from hot stoves, there are also important safety tips to follow when using batteries. Here’s what you should know:
Only use the charger that came with your toy.
Using the wrong one can be unsafe.
Be gentle with your toys.
Don’t throw or drop them — batteries can be dangerous if they get damaged.
Tell an adult if something seems wrong.
If your toy is cracked, swollen, or leaking, stop playing with it and let a grown-up know right away.
Ask an adult to help when your toy needs new batteries.
Some batteries can be tricky — it’s safest to let a grown-up do it.
When it’s time to get rid of old batteries,
ask an adult to help tape the ends and find a drop-off spot.
Never throw batteries in the trash or recycling bin.
Always tape the ends and turn them in — it helps keep everyone safe!
